Offertory Program ~ Programa de Ofertorio Parroquial 2012

New Commitments Begin Today!

Thank you for considering what you contribute to the parish and for completing a commitment card last month with your 2012 offertory plans. Your thoughtful gifts are important for us to continue to provide the ministries and services that benefit all parishioners, as well as the outside community.

We ask that whether you decided to increase, decrease or keep your commitment the same, please begin giving your new amount this Sunday, January 1st. Thank you for your ongoing generosity to this parish and the less fortunate.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

Holyfamily

The feast of the Holy Family is celebrates the family unit and the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It is usually celebrated the Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s but this year will be celebrated today, December 30th.

No matter what our age, we can find within the Holy Family love, hope and spiritual guidance useful and meaningful for our own family situation. By reflecting on the joys and hardships of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph we become encouraged that we, too, are paving the way to holiness within and through our own family.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, strengthen our family to love harder, forgive more often, and selflessly give the precious gift of time to each other. We ask your continued blessing, Amen.

Introducing the “Prayer Shawl Ministry”

Our newest ministry, the “Prayer Shawl Ministry” is being formed at St. Edward the Confessor. This is a worldwide ministry that provides people in need of comfort with a warm cozy shawl or lap blanket. These items are knitted or crocheted. The maker begins each shawl or blanket with prayers and blessing for the recipient and continues the intention with each stitch. When it is completed it is blessed again and sent to the recipient.

The yarns used for these shawls and lap blankets are donated by the makers or by good will offerings and donations.

For more information or if you would like to join this new ministry you may email Joia Smart.

Holy Innocents Observance ~ Special Mass

Join us at the 5:30 P.M. Mass tomorrow, Wednesday, December 28th, in the observance of the Holy Innocents. We remember the children murdered by King Herod in an attempt to kill the baby Jesus.  There will be a special Mass celebrated at 5:30 p.m. for families who have lost children due to sickness, accidents, murder--especially including abortion.  During the Mass there will be a candlelight procession to the Altar and pro-life Rosary immediately after.

Women of Wisdom on Wednesday's

We are committed to encourage women of all ages to grow spiritually and in relationships with others.

We will explore our  lives with discussion of the book FRIENDSHIP OF WOMEN by Joan  Chittister.  Wisdom in the Christian Tradition refers to an experiential understanding of how to live happily, deeply, in harmony with GOD, Oneself, and Others. Making life-giving choices is a lifelong challenge. Our weekly meetings present an approach that integrates Christian Tradition and the Psychology of Human Development and is open to all women.

Women of Wisdom meets on Wednesdays in Knight Hall 9:30-11:30 am beginning January 11, 2012. Shirley Filadelfia is the facilitator.  Books will be available.

Traces of Grace ~ Rasgos de Gracia ~ December 25, 2011

Nativity
Dear Fellow Parishioners;

Christmas while it can be an exhausting time, (some can’t wait till the relatives leave!), a joyous time, a time of remembering that can be tinged with sadness or regret, it can also be just a time that slips by us.  Or it might be a time for rethinking, of reimagining one’s life and one’s place in the world

It begins with the Incarnation, that moment where the Divine Spirit is infused into Human Flesh and the Son of Man is born.  I am still struck by the incredible unlikeliness of this event.  To imagine that the God of all creation, the God of recently discovered immense black holes and almost eternal expanses of space can in a moment of time become part of His creation and enter into our minute place of existence in this universe.  Yet, that is what God chooses.  The one who walked and still walks among us is loving us and showing us His way to unity with the Father.  This is the story the Church continues to preach and teach.  If you have been distant from this community of faith, yet found yourself here today, know that you are most welcome. Come back and hear again the story of the Good News. If you are visiting family and came to Mass today to keep them happy consider making a commitment to return to your own parish.  If you are part of the fabric of this parish community, thank you for engaging your faith in this way and I hope we can support and deepen that faith in the coming year

As pastor, I wish to thank all those who encourage, enliven and invigorate the Spirit in our midst.  To the staff, the priests, deacons and many volunteers, thank you for your loving service to the Lord and to the community of St. Edward the Confessor/San Felipe de Jesus. This coming year I wish us all opportunities to deepen our faith in the Lord who has reached out to lead us home to Him.

Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Sallot

Pastor

Queridos feligreses;

P. Esteve Sallot

Párroco
